2012 Outreach.
My first experience at Ixopo was a wonderful one: namely to work with the children. “Outreach” is the class where children with learning difficulties are helped. This group of girls and boys, are mainly attend the Little Flower School, although some are from the Village Primary School. For me it is a blessing to work with them.
This group had been started to help children from poor families. Their parents cannot afford to give them the help that they need, to buy them school uniforms, and to support them in such a way that they get everything which is needed during their years at school.
At the beginning it was a challenge for me to help these children once a week, because I am still studying towards my matric. However, the time came when I was reflecting about what I wish to do in the future and I started to think about becoming a social worker.
Through working with these poor children I had discovered that this profession would be fulfilling my desires for the future. I have realised that to work with the poor and the lonely is my calling. I came to understand their backgrounds, which helped me assist with them. The closer I became to the children the stronger my heart’s desire became.
The school year of 2012 has ended now with a very enjoyable party, and all the children were promoted to their next class for 2013.
I am really looking forward to 2013 in order to start my journey again. I would like to thank those who have been supporting me in so many different ways. Especially the volunteers from Germany and from Austria, some helpers from the Little Flower School, who assisted me in so many wonderful ways.
